Darwin Martin House
If you’re looking to see some beautiful architecture, you can’t go wrong by visiting the Darwin D. Martin House complex in Blasdell, NY. This National Historic Landmark complex was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and was built in 1903 and 1905. Today, the house complex is a popular attraction in the town.
The Darwin Martin House is one of Wright’s largest commissions, and is a stunning expression of his vision for the home. He often described the house’s design as “a domestic symphony,” and this structure embodies his philosophy. It features rectilinear units, leaded-glass windows, and custom-made furnishings. It also features clusters of piers that allow for continuous bands of windows along the perimeter of the building.
The Martin House was designed between 1903 and 1905 for businessman Darwin D. Martin, a prominent Buffalo businessman. It is considered a masterpiece of 20th century architecture and Wright’s early work. In fact, Wright called this structure “The Opus” (the epitome of his architecture).
In addition to its striking appearance, the Darwin D. Martin House complex is also a National Historic Landmark and is one of Wright’s most important projects in the Buffalo area. The complex was built between 1903 and 1905 and was regarded as Wright’s finest work of the Prairie School period.
